Clouds of Death

Poem written when I was in the 9th std. There was an earlier poetry festival where we were expected to write a poem on clouds of grey. Had written on something similar. Hence for elocution competition, snitched that, modified it, improved it and came up with this. I have no clue why I even attempt explaining the ulterior motives behind my poems... Probably as a memo...

Clouds of Death

Clouds of Death enveloped the sky
Fear approached slithering by,
The Earth was filled with Natures sigh,
To see man suffer and hear his pitiful cry.

As Elephants stampeded in the Heavens,
And electric weapons clashed,
Racing winds howled with rage,
On the Earth, now a desert, barren and flat.

The nuclear radiation engulfed the air,
So much suffering man could not bear.
His defenses could only delay the inevitable end,
For once, man’s proud back was forced to bend.

No trees to purify the poisonous air,
No water to purge the waste,
Only UV Rays, Toxic and Acid Rain,
All of them out to finally put an end to man’s pain.

Man who destroyed the shield of ozone,
Man who turned Nature’s children – his siblings –to fur and bone,
Man whose greed destroyed the trees and fish,
Man is to blame for all this.

In the end, after the destruction,
After all of humanity’s extinction,
The earth is calm and serene,
No sound is heard, no life is seen.

No one to mourn, no one to wail,
On the vast seas, no one to sail.
No life to walk, creep or crawl on the land,
No birds to fly, no insects in the sand.

Nothing but the sound of silence, the sight of corpses,
To be given a funeral by Nature’s resources,
The Earth heaves one last sigh,
And begins the formation of a new world – a new ground, a new sky

Eons later, the Earth is fully cleansed,
The cycle of evolution begins once more.
Nature hopes that man will change,
And not commit the same mistakes again.

For if he does, his fate is sealed,
His doom is near, his end revealed.

Before acting, let him refrain.
Let him pause and work his brain,
And understand that if his promises to protect the earth go in vain,
THE CLOUDS OF DEATH WILL ATTACK AGAIN.
